Very interesting Ian, thanks for sharing. The only points I would take issue with are your suggestions 1) that Johnson didn't want to 'cull the elderly and vulnerable'. Because subsequent comments during the Covid inquiry ('they've had a good innings" etc, that even if he didn't want that to happen, he preferred it to locking down. 2) that the government did the best it could in the circumstances. I didn't believe that then, and I certainly don't believe it now. Do you?
I don't disagree now, but I was more generous then.
I kept up a daily blogpost throughout the pandemic. I've often thought about going back into it to see what I wrote, but haven't worked up any enthusiasm. I'm sure I'd find plenty that would cause me to disagree with younger me, but I've let it stand.
Yes, I can understand that. I think many of us wanted to be generous then, in part, because we had to hope for the best from the government we were stuck with. And as for letting things stand, absolutely. The value of blog posts is the reaction you have at the time. We can't get in the habit of censoring ourselves because we don't like what we wrote or we now think we missed something out!
Forgive me writing here, but it's my only contact for you. I'm launching my new Salt poetry collection at the Lescar pub, Sheffield S11 on April 3rd. From 6:30. It would be lovely to see you and Jane there if you can make it. It's free and I'm joined by d/deaf queer activist Charlotte Lunn (works in Scarthin's) and fellow Salt poet Alex Corrin Tachibana. There will also be music and two of mine set to it - but no 'Dad Rapping', I promise! Hope you're well
Oh have a great time in Spain. We're in Gran Canaria where they've shut the airport and advised tourists to stay indoors! Fortunately for us, we're 3000 feet up on the other side of the mountains and the worst we've had to put up with is powercuts. Not typical Canarian weather, though. All best, Ken.
That spurred me to look at my own blog entry for the same day. FWIW, it's here: https://www.cosmicsurfer.co.uk/2020/03/15/

Hi Ken. No problem at all. Congratulations on the new collection. Unfortunately, I’ll be away in Spain that week. Hope it goes well.
