Incisive as always, Matt. In a related matter, I've just seen Guy Debord waving a copy of The Society of the Spectacle while shouting 'I told you so!'.
A delicious skewering of the moral ugliness of this régime. The observation that "politics is show business for ugly people" has never seemed more appropriate.
Another good piece - my son and family have just moved back here after 6.5 years in USA, to our relief. Will share it with him and suggests he shares it with his US friends, though I know they would say most of their friends loath Trump and his ilk.
I think what you are describing is that this is about more than a lost of trust and breaking economic, diplomatic and military relationships. It's about an emerging deep loathing for the USA and by extension Americans, beyond anything Ive ever seen. Vietnam and Iraq provoked much anti-American feeling but not the deep loathing prompted by the behaviour of the entire Trump regime, the Republican party and their tech, finance and fossil fuel business supporters. A disgust at a deep human level which by association also applies to Israel. It is very hard to see how that will be repaired.
From barbarism to decadence and now back to barbarism
Very hard Robin. It requires the complete political obliteration of the Republican Party for starters. But as you suggest, these forces (decadence/barbarism/imperial entitlement etc) were already in play before MAGA/Trumpism. So there also needs to be some accounting for this, a withdrawal from empire and global violence, not just a return to what was there before Trump - given that 'normal' politics made the Gaza slaughter possible, and established a model which is now being applied in Iran and Lebanon.

Hahaha. Well he certainly has the right to say that, doesn’t he?

Great article, Matt.
The US will never overcome the stigma of electing a narcissistic, moronic, pedophile xxxxxxx twice!

Excellent, I’m sending this to friends in USA. Thanks I’d like the world to declare they stand with Iran and boycott all things American. BDSbarb
